Personalised plates

Post by lambert.john »

I had one on my "modern". When I sold it (the Excel is now my daily driver) I put the cherished number "on certificate" with the intention of selling it sometime. That was a year ago. Time to renew, and I sent off the application with a cheque for £25 renewal fee (as I believed was the payment required). I have now received the new certificate from the DVLA, together my returned cheque! Apparently, there has been a change in legislation which means that payment is no longer required. What's more, the new certificate is valid for TEN years, not 12 months as previously!

This is (good) news to me!

I hope the plate says 'F1'
It would look nice on an Excel.

A personal plate here in Sweden reads "2L84F1"
To late for Formula 1
It's owned by the chairman of Lotus Car Club of Sweden and is at his Elise.
He retired from work last year and might be too old for a career in F1 ;-)

I understand the number F1 is currently available for purchase if anyone is interested! You will need deep pockets, however; the last time it changed hands it fetched £440,000.

All personal plates in Sweden are Sek 6000, for a 10 year pereiod.
Thats aprox £500.
You pay the fee , and then have the right of that plate for 10 years, Then you can renev it for either 5 or 10 years
I used to have "STELL" for 15 years at my daily driver

So if F1 is not taken here
you aply for it and it's £500

:D

do these plates do anything for the car, if not the money would be better spent buying reliability, performance or other improvements. :!: :!:

A little bit curt Alan, but they do an awful lot for the owner in marking the car as their own, and the one they cherish. They add no value other than to that of the beholder, and this

for me and many others is a little brighter. Even if I had 9k spare to replace my ok performing engine I probably wouldn't. It would go on other improvements - wine; women's clothes; carpets; curtains; shoes; tea towels and a cherished number plate!

Stu - Please don't misquote me and put me in the same naysayers corner... that's a lonely corner!

I see value in some things where others don't. The below picture shows my stance, if the plate suits...why not. I paid hardly anyhing for this plate as it suited nothing else on the road but it went perfect with what I was building.

No sorry K, didn't mean to. I was just attempting to use your world " a dull Place" analogy to support my thoughts, but obviously failed. :D. 3/10 must try harder :D
