Owners Handbooks- Editions and dates?

Post by majcd213 »

Hi All,

I have an 84 Excel. Its clearly badged Excel nor Eclat Excel and its in a parlious state. Whilst I probably should get my hands dirty in the engine bayI have become caught up in a quest to regain the cars original equipment. This includes the toolkit and owners handbook.

Currently I have obtained two copies of the handbook. The first is entitled "Eclat Excel". It was issued in 1983 and has the part no A 089T 0324Z. The second is entitled "Excel" and although I don't have the issue date as the registration page wasn't fully completed, however the 6k service happened in March 86 so I am assuming it must have been early 86 or late 85. The part number on this is B 089T 03242Z. This later book includes a description of the front foglamps which weren't fitted to my car.

The engine description in both books states a compression ratio of 9.44:1

The badging suggests that the 83 book is too early and the front fog lights suggest the 85/6 edition is too late. My question is whether therefore there was another edition between these two? Does anyone have an '84 car and if so what handbook came with it?

Also I believe the earlier cars came with a tool roll rather than the plastic case- does anyone still have one who could confirm this and its contents?

Many thanks all

Mike

All the information you need is in the parts manual ;) [ http://www.lotusexcel.net/phpbb/viewtop ... =15&t=1543 ]

However, the first letter of a Lotus part number is the revision letter and they are sequential so A089 immediately precedes B089. the A089 handbook covers 82 to 84, and B089 came in for MY 1985.

Toolkit and roll is 82-86 and the plastic case is post 86. They are officially Esprit parts as they have x082 part numbers.

Thanks, I couldn't find the owners handbook in the parts list but that is where I found out about the tool roll. Thanks though, Guess this means I have the right handbook already.
