Alternative oil filler cap

Post by robertverhey »

Hi just wondering has anyone identified an alternative oil filler cap for a HC motor? It's the orange plastic, non- ratchet type. I know SJ sells them, but hoping for a quicker, cheaper local solution. Thanks in advance, robert

I struggled, I was told by the person that knows, that it was a standard thread at the time. I scoured scrap yards but couldn't find anything to fit well, the closest was a Japanese car of a more modern era, where I had to thin the thread slightly as the thread rate was slightly different, but I'd guess if you can find a scrap yard with a selection of makes form the mid 80s, you'd be more likely than where I tried.

Thanks for that, yes I've already scoured the wrecking yard..... And ended up with a Toyota Camry cap, which, as you say, is close and does the job but not close enough!

The quest continues, if no joy I'll bite the (expensive) bullet at SJs
