OZ wheels centre cap removal

Post by spanish singer »

I will be repainting my OZ wheels and need to remove the plastic centre caps. I managed to remove one but it wasn´t easy and I ended up breaking off a few of the plastic lugs that hold it into the Wheel   . Is there a trick to remove these easily without damaging them ?
I have managed to buy new OZ stickers for the rims and new Lotus badges for the Wheel centres. Im not sure yet if I will paint them in their original colour or paint them in a more modern looking Anthracite colour that would look nice on my Blue car.

Paul.

I've removed them by simply knocking them from the outside. I guess a small disc of wood to protect may help but I've not been that fussy.

Try warming them with, say, a hair drier immediately before removing them.

I tried to knock them out from the back of the Wheel outwards. Do you mean knock them inwards to remove them ?

Yep, to fit them, the wheel is removed from the car and the "cap" inserted from the flange with the hub and pushed until they lock by means of the ridge.

Thanks Andy. I gave them a light tap inwards and they came free easily. I was trying to remove them the wrong way
Can start cleaning up the wheels now ready to repaint them.
