Boot Lid won't Open

Post by Mikekl »

My boot lid won't open. The latch turns but the lid won't open. Does anyone have an idea how I can get into the boot. I thought about drilling out the lock and latch but don't know if this will work. I also don't want to damage the lock and latch. Any advice would be appreciated. :(

Hi! It sounds as if the latching mechanisim has seized! You could I suppose try flooding the barrel with 3 in1 oil using one of their aerosol type dispensers.

If all else fails, drill the lock barrel out - you should then be able to get to the release mechanism. The barrel is easily replaced and any decent locksmith can match it to your existing key.

Thanks. I did cut the lock out and got the boot open. However, the latch was too damaged to use again. Does anyone know where I can get a new latch with lock? :)
