Lotus Festival at Snetterton 13/14 Jun 2009

The next big Lotus event this year will be the Lotus On Track (LOT) Lotus Festival to be held at Snetterton Race Circuit over the weekend of 13/14 Jun 2009.

Planning by LEC is at an early stage but as it is 20 years since the M100 Elan was launched an LEC presence is planned.

There will be an attempt for a World Record for Lotus cars and a possibility of a factory visit

I cannot make it as I am in Scotland for a wedding - but some Excels should definately be there - who is up for it?

Both me and Mrs Oz will be there with the Excel, we are also entering a Pedal Kart into the competition too (part of the Surrey Seloc Team)...

If ever you needed evidence to show that the Excel was an endangered species, Snetterton on Sunday was the place to be.

A total of approximately 460 cars were assembled on the track for the 'world record' attempt. Lined up three abreast, for a few laps, it was just like the M25 on a bad day. The vast majority were Elise variants; the place was full of them everywhere. Nothing wrong with that, but it made the relatively older cars look a bit thin on the ground. I think I spotted no more than a handful of Excels and Elites.

As well as the record attempt the Elise racing was close fought and the demonstrations by Classic Team Lotus were well worth seeing. If Motor Sport Vision does this event again, maybe at another of their circuits, then I can recommend paying a visit.

As John G says it was a great day out, the weather was fantastic, seeing all the cars on circuit was wonderful the only downside was seeing poor old oz on the side of the track, his oil filler cap fell in half on the first lap and spewed oil over the exhaust, not the sort of spare anyone might carry just in case. But fortunately he managed to use an elise unit to get him home.

Hehe, she was fine once i got a temp oil cap again!

of all the stuff to happen, bloody plastic oil cap perrishes after a little blast through the first 2 clear corners as i entered the track barely touched 70mph...

anyway...

was an awesome day, think i counted 7 excels on sunday, i think i was the only one Fri and Sat... Was great to meet some of you! Fantastic weekend was had, and weather was great!

Perhaps if you posted a pic of the car in question, with its rear up in the air, on the back of a flatbed truck with two guys in orange overalls recovering it, that might generate a response to your oil cap request?
