At least they kept the MOT going since its sale at the NEC auction, Obviously not the car though - 500 Miles in 12 years.

Page 1 photos 1 and 2 of "Ethels rebuild begins" you will find this car on the ramps.
This was the prototype that Brian rebuilt.
It was completed and went to a few club outings.
It spent a period of time in the Dundee Museum of Transport before heading to auction where it achieved a sale price far less than the time and cost put into it as I don't believe the market was ready for Excels of this calibre.
It was a complete strip down to the chassis.
Interior fully retrimmed. EVERYTHING was done.
Being a prototype excel it did not come with galvanised parts. This particular car has every chassis item powder coated with the paint that is used for street lamps (light grey) for long term protection.

I must say that if I was ready to spend £20K on a wedge, I'd be going for this one over the many cars currently on Car & Classic in the midto high teens price range.
Looks in amazing condition. Probably just too good to use seriously though IMO.

As fueltheburn says. It was a total rebuild. Here it is on the stand at the NEC 2010. It was back a year later fully restored. Interior was cloth originally

Don’t suppose you have any photos of it with the cloth interior? I have the 2nd prototype which has a half leather interior I believe to be original and would be interested to see if it was the same.

Alan - I seem to remember Brian bringing the car to the NEC before restoration was started. I think the year before my pictures but I can't find any pictures of it. I will have another look or perhaps a search on here might turn up some pictures.
Cheers, Phil

Yep this is my car. Too good to use as a daily. Had a problem with the engine the crankshaft drive belt pulley was loose which is why it didn’t stay in tune. Fixed now by MSC. Also replaced the distributor as the internals were a pocket of small change. Carbs have been rebuilt and now the engine is very sweet. Thanks for the positive comments.
