Part Wiring loom

Post by Zag »

Hi.
I joined 3 months ago when I purchased my 85 SE. Since then I have been
reading up on topics to stop me asking questions that have been asked before.

Anyway my excel had an aftermarket alarm fitted and it looks like when this was done the loom from the fusebox to where ever it goes was disturbed and chaffed against the bracketry under the steering column. This led to a short on the thick yellow positive to the fuse box which if I had been unlucky would have led to a total loss of the car.

So what I need is details of where the plug breaks are for this section of the loom are and if anyone has this bit of the wiring for sale or am I better getting a complete harness from lotusbits?

Appreciate any advice.

Andrew.

Hi Zac

This happen to me.
This is what I ended up having to do.
Take out the instrument panel and the whole dash, this exposes the wire loom.
Unwrap the tape around the wire loom, separate out the damaged wires then start replacing the damage ones from a 1987+ model excel. The 1987+ uses thicker wire, thus keep cooler when suppling power.

You will probably find that a lot of the loom is OK, my yellow wire over heated and shorted to many many other wires.
It took me 8 months at 2 to 3 days a week to get it completely rebuilt.
www.Lotusbits.co.uk have looms .

Now, you are currently thinking I will just get a replacement loom from lotusbits.
I am sorry to say, but our cars are all hand built and as such the inter-connectors were changed on at various times and were sourced from various suppliers.
What I am saying is, if you get an 1985 loom it may not have the correct connectors on it so you will have to change them to something else , I changed mine to Deutsch connectors. they are waterproof and sealed.

Good luck with your task.

Hi,

I've got a big box of wiring which contains the leftovers of an éclat loom, an early excel and a 1986 excel SE loom, left over from a project. It's pretty chopped up, but you are welcome to have any of the wires / connectors for free if it helps fix your loom. you would have to collect from Berkshire. I think there is a fair bit of the yellow IG1 supply wire in there. Send me a PM if you're interested as I don't go on this forum very often.
