who said anything about £12K...............................? :?:

the last bid was £7,550.00 ............. if that doesnt prove a thriving interest i dont know what does.

and this is just a series one Elite which looks very good but still not perfect or totally original.

so what would a perfect series 2.2 go for then? i guess you want all Elites and Eclats to go for £50 quid then?

no one would touch a series 1 Esprit with a barge pole once............. now see what they go for. and apporx 18 months ago a low mileage 2002 Esprit averaged £25K ..........today 40 - 50 K and they are selling.

lets all keep putting the Eclat and Elite down then. lets make sure there is no originals left and they have no values eh.......................

i dont understand all this doubting............that only comes from non Lotus enthusiasts.

regards.

i have messaged the Elite seller - he has told me he had a number of offers above the last bid of £ 7550.00 - he has an enthusiast buyer who is buying for a much higher amount than the last bid.
that is why he ended the listing.

so your judgement is wrong.

maybe your interest is not in Lotus cars after all.

very best regards.

the £10-12 comes from the e-bay listing and probably explains why there were not any bids. if i did not like lotus i would not have the car i have, experience has taught which models to avoid like the plague. however good they look they remain money pits. i suspect the vendor was trying to talk the price up as the sale ended with no bids. :(
dc, have a look on e-bay and piston heads, the only esprits to top £40k are v8 models, most turbos are in the twenties afew in the 30k rang, na cars sub 20, it is always worth remembering what is asked is just that, what is achieved is probably less. perhaps you can provide an example of a series one or two esprit that sold for £40k or even 30k.
i would not be the keeper of an excel lb 2.5, an m100 turbo and part owner of a race prepared '65 elan (180 bhp 120ft lb )
if i did not like the brand. i imagine you know what i think of elites and eclats.

his ebay ad did NOT have an asking price of 12K that i saw. he may mention that in his listing but never asked for that as a sale price. i DID see the bidding go up to the £7,550.00 though. so it had many bids. i think it was well over 30 bids...............

he has also said its sold for more than that as i explained - and he ended the listing as he had a number of higher offers.

having owned hundreds of cars and bought and sold cars myself over 35 years i am fully aware of asking prices and price actually made.

i am also aware of Esprits that HAVE sold at the prices i also mentioned previous. not all cars are sold on autotrader, ebay, pistonheads btw.................. the 2002 Esprit would have to be a V8...............

you are entitled to your opinion on the Elite and Eclat but they have been misunderstood for years. very unfairly. i can not think of any perfectly designed or built car at any price. past or present.

most people forget the Elite was the flagship car for Lotus when the Esprit was on sale - the Elite was actually the most expensive car on sale.

it would appear you do not read accurately what i have posted on here. i have followed Lotus in detail for over 40 years i am fully aware of models, history, development, values.etc.

best regards.

i suggest that you have a look at the e-bay listing, it clearly shows o bids when the listing ended and in his blog he suggests the thing is worth the figures i quoted. yes few cars are perfect but some are more imperfect than others and some are far short of perfection. you have not come with an example of the prices you quote. yes the elite and eclat are misunderstood in that few purchasers realise that the only way to achieve a degree of reliability is to drive them as if they are an austin maxis.
if you know how to get the prices for lotus that you claim are being achieved you should have a great future as a dealer specialising in classic lotus. good luck with that.

you are a sad bunny................ :(

anyone who had watched the listing will see it finished on £7550.00. ................IT REVERTS TO '0' IF THE SELLER ENDS THE LISTING EARLY.

there are many dealers and sellers outside of ebay, autotrader and pistonheads that sell collectable cars and presige cars.

you seem to suggest you are an authority over all such subjects.

and yes i have sold cars with considerable profit.

THATS WHY I DONT LIKE TO POST THINGS ON THESE FORUMS - THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE WITH AN AXE TO GRIND.................... VERY UNFRIENDLY.

you know nothing about me.

please calm down. best regards. :D

I was one of those apparent non existent bidders

It actually reached £7651 on Ebay, I met the owner on several occasions and he purchased parts from me, only lives 2 miles from me, I inspected the car closely, it is a fine example of the Elite S1, definitely one of the better ones, not quite concours but with a little effort could be.

There were well over 30 bids, mine included, and about 10 different bidders and 350 watchers, the owner Chris had a huge amount of emails and thereby interest in purchasing the Elite, he received a very good offer from an enthusiast, well in excess of what it had reached on Ebay, he didn't tell me exactly how much but I know he was looking for offers in excess of £9K and he appeared pretty happy with the deal so we can only speculate what it achieved.

As mkelite stated, when a listing is ended early all bids are automatically cancelled and therefore ends with zero bids, hope that clarifies the situation for anyone with a genuine interest in these fine cars, but then again what would I know I have only owned 32 Lotus cars over a period of 39 years.
