SP9000s

Post by barker_001 »

Has anyone had a good deal on SP9000s in 215/50/15 size recently? Just had an advisory on my front tyres so I'm looking to replace them soon, and hopefully match the 215s on the back. Thanks in advance...

Hello Bryan, early last year I got two Dunlop 215/50 ZR 15 with sidewall protection for 125 Euros each before 21% VAT and free delivery to Spain from France. The supplier is order.neumaticos-online.com@delti.com.
You may need to try order.tyres-online to get a connection in English.

Delti.com have been showing no stock for several months (UK link mytyres.co.uk).

My understanding is that production has stopped. When I heard it was stopping I bought some and have "laid them down".

Hi Bryan, I had my tyre company order some from a company in Germany about a year ago. They had plentyin stock then and the date code was pretty recent. I'll try and remember the name of the company as it has slipped my mind at the moment. I paid about 120.00 each and that included valves, balancing etc.

Regards

Shaun

Hi Shaun, that would be great, thank you.

The story is looking pretty bleak elsewhere. Surely there must be a small but constant demand for this size, what with the Excel, some of the Esprit fronts, and the Audi Quattro :?:

Unfortunately, not enough demand it seems. I've spoken to a few manufacturers and one "specialist" importer and couldn't get a lot of interest in doing anything. The only company that still manufacturers in that size for the European market seems to be Toyo.

Of course, now that the swing back to smaller wheels and higher sidewalls has started, it may just be a matter of time.

Meanwhile, 205/50/15s do a good job at a fraction of the price.

Lots more internet digging done, and phone calls made... Nothing doing anywhere. Even Dunlop themselves said there were currently no plans to make a run of this size... :-(

That's interesting! Give me a bit more hope (is it the electric market looking to save weight/gain efficiencies in key areas?) and tell me what you're picking-up-on Angus.

Just noticing a trend appearing in discussions elsewhere. Opinion seems to be shifting back towards the idea that a decent sidewall improves the ride so smaller diameter rims are advisable.

Meanwhile, manufacturers and journalists acknowledge that a higher sidewall can reduce road noise transmission into the cabin as well as saving weight in the smaller wheel so improving performance and fuel economy.

Using Pirelli P ZERO Asimmetrico 225/50 ZR15 91Y at the rear wheels for half a year now, and very pleased with them. :)

i have been using 225x50 15 tyres for about eight years, they raise the gearing slightly but on my car they do not rub any where even on full lock. i put 28psi in them to prevent tramlining. finally they are widely available at what i regard as a reasonable price.

I've ran both 225's' and 205's at my car. I prefer the 205's, as i think the 225's are too "nevous" in my way of driving the Excel

Did anyone go to 195/55 R15? It is a better match for rolling radius than 205/50 R15 albeit narrower still.

I have always found the 215/50 R15 Dunlop SP9000 tramlines more than I would like and spoils the steering feel. Does a narrower tyre give a better steering feel?
