At the beginning of the year I replaced my cambelt and at the same time imported and fitted a tensioner bearing, just in case.
After fitting the new bearing with the cambelt tension correct, I noticed that after a couple of hundred kilometres the bearing was squeaking. I sprayed the bearing with our equivalent of WD40 (Q 20) and the squeak disappeared for a few months. Last week I took the car on a longish trip to Port Elizabeth (200 kms) and I noticed that the squeak had returned. Another shot of Q 20 and all is quiet again, even after the return trip back to Plettenberg Bay.
I am just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and should I be worried?
I have a feeling that it is the neoprene rubber lip, that stops ingress of moisture and grit into the bearing itself, that is causing the noise as it is in contact with the rotating surface.
