Cork Gaskets

Post by Bagpussawake »

Anyone know of a reason why I shouldn't try cork gaskets on the cam covers?

I believe some day the re-usable rubber ones from the Jensen owners site are better, but cork ones glued to the cam cover then applied are great for stopping leaks.

Cut my own cork gaskets after failed attempts to seal exhaust cam cover with cardboard gasket and sealant (all supplied by Lotusbits so definitely the right stuff).

Lightly greased the gaskets before assembly and it's worked like a charm, no oil from there at all.

Found another oil leak dripping onto exhaust as well, the rear seal on the inlet cam shaft. Replaced the o-ring (hard and flattened with age) with one from B&Q and the leak has gone.

Just need to shift 12" of snow off the car and get it MOT'd now...

I changed my old gaskets for rubber ones, which cost a lot and came from the USA, but have now sealed the engine for probably the first time since it was assembled. I would highly recommend getting some from the Jensen specialists in the states.
