For all those wiring gremlins we love, this is the place to discuss them.

Headlights pop up when braking

Post by Richy B »

Intermittent fault, which happens mostly when car has been standing a while or in motion
Always when I start in the morning and depress the brake to select Drive, the light comes on the selector panel
and headlights come up then go down, the lights do not flash (bit like when you flash someone but dont hold the stalk
long enough to flash)
Could it be a short? if so anyone experienced this before?

Getting worried now as headlights been a little juddery going down just today, didnt seem good :(

Been out in the dark just now and think it could be a brake light/ side light bulb,
removed the offending item and headlight pods stopped coming up,
Replaced bulb (P21 5w) works ok and pods stay down when brake pressed
not sure if thats all just a fluke?

Bad earth on your rear lights is probably the cause.

Problem seems to have gone, with new bulb, good warning system that, if your headlights pop up you have a bulb off
