More door seals

Post by johnf »

I'm in the last stages of the refurb and its all looking very good, even got the MOT booked for Wednesday and then I try to fit my new genuine Lotus door seals ... swear words ...

The seal seem to have a twist along their length greater than 360 degrees, am I going mad ! I've tried twisting and looping it back on itself but can't get it to straighten out.

Any advice apart from going back to lotus.

can you get it ionto a hoop?

Can you achieve a hoop with the seal where it has either the groove on the outer edge or on the inner edge?

If so everything should be fine.

Nope, the twist is 720 degrees along the length of the seal, I've been trying to uncoil it by twisting this way and that but haven't managed to get the ywist out in order to fit.

Knife?

Go for it, cut it at the corner and re-glue it.
You know you're going to have to.

After spending £170 for the seals, its back to the lotus shop to complain or be very embarrassed when they give it a tug and it goes straight ...

£170 ouch

I objected to paying circa £50 per door for the Esprit ones, IO could have ordered some material from Woolies trim, but couldn't be sure it was big enough. Went to the local rubber and plastic supply company, spent approx £50 for enough to do do both Esprit doors.
I thought £50 a door was bad. £170 (I assume that was 2 doors + boot).

Just the doors ...

Tried wollies and sj seals not happy with either as they wouldn't stay in place even after using sikaflex. The lotus seals fit very well even though they are twisted.

i've just fitted new door seals and went to get the originals from Lotus - the long and short is that they were both very twisted and had to be changed - the drivers side is now fitted and seems great the passenger side is awaiting a third one from Lotus. These were a premium price versus other options and I think that they should be able to get it right so i'll keep using the old one 'till a good new un turns up!!
