It's been a while since this saw daylight. Many thought it did not still exist.
I pulled this out of hiding last month to prep it for Glamis Castle where it received the kind of attention you would expect from retired engineers and enthusiasts.
I managed to track down a couple of it's original parts not too long ago including the custom driveshafts and LSD.
The project is now needing someone who is looking for a modified excel so they can start with the best possible one. One which has had the necessary expensive upgrades to replace the underperforming original parts and some very choice options along the way.

Using the Lotus (Esprit) V8 would be a nice touch....shame I don't have one under the bench....

I know of a factory crate one sitting under a bench...just need to liberate it from him.
That will be as likely as someone from Fife opening their wallet

I have a feeling that was built by Brian Swankie, formerly of this parish but I haven't noticed him around here for a while. Based in Scotland, and he also restored an Eclat/Excel prototype a while back too.Dwaynem884 wrote: Tue Aug 05, 2025 08:27 Slight digression here....flicking through the photos on the listing..... but what on earth is that?!![]()

It's still around, someone spotted it on the back of a lorry a week or two back and put a photo on one of the Excel Facebook groups.

Yes and Yes.
It is an Excel pickup, currently residing with John Walsh.
It was created by Brian a few years back as part of a joke if I remember correctly. Made from one of my old rolling stock.
I seem to remember somebody betting Brian he couldn't make a pickup
The load bed is fully lined in something like teak wood i.e the same as boat decking.

I found three better pictures, with a bit of Googling. I'd post them if I had time to work out how to do it, but I'm supposed to be working. The shape reminds me of a TR7.

It was at the NEC restoration show in 2018 on the Excel.net stand

Re: Pete Booles(mona Lisa) flip frontfront excel
Anyway... Back to the original point.
Pete B's flip front excel is for sale.
It is not a restoration project. Very close to being a running car, just needs a bit of input.
I am going through the process of putting up a steel portal. Once completed, this then comes back on my radar.
In the meantime it is offered to someone as an opportunity to purchase a unique piece of club history constructed with pedantic measure.
