car was on ebay, if you bought through them you can recover the money, even better if you paid by pay pal.

i too looked at the seller's ebay record, looked very good.does anyone here know if it is possible for a someone to"borrow" a good seller's ebay identity and site.
get onto pay pal asap i think there is a time limit on the opening of the resolution process.
i've had a look at paypal conditions as regards buyers, they say that they exclude all types of motor vehicles from their protection, is that correct?.
[Mod. note : Edited to change a contentious word. We don't want to be open to accusations of potential libel. Please choose your words carefully.]

a simple question about the possibility of an anonymous person having the technical ability to hack into and misuse an innocent web site cannot by its nature libel anyone. to be libelous a published statement must be likely to cause readers to think less of the subject of the statement and it must be largely untrue. i may have used a word which is politically incorrect to describe a person indulging in criminal activity but there is not anything in the question that suggests that the owner of the web site or the legitimate user has done anything wrong though you might think that it implies they have been the victims of a crime.

Alan - the issue is not what was in your mind when you wrote it, nor the veracity of what your wrote, but the potential cost of having to deal with a complaint or legal threat from the subject of this thread.
Even when something is written in good faith, is an honest opinion and would fail the normal tests for defamation, the costs of dealing with a complaint could result in this community being shutdown forever.
I took the decision to edit out a word that the person in question might choose to construe as applying to them and, for the reasons stated above, I stand by that decision and will do the same again in order to protect this forum. If you don't like that decision, feel free to appeal to Spav. It's his forum and we are all here only because he allows us to be - and charges us nothing for that privilege.
Currently, we only have one side of the story and no information what's happened with the seller. He could be in hospital, dead, in prison, on holiday, kidnapped, on a UFO or something else - we just don't know.
