Knobs.

Post by amarshall »

Gear that is, SE spec. (leather).

If you want to refurbish yours yourself, a £5 replacement leather cover from ebay works fairly well. VW Passat B5 is the one I went for - slightly oversized in places, but fits well enough with a bit of stretching, double-sided tape and glue.

Remove knob from shaft in car.
Remove shaft from car (undo grub screw and wind shaft off gear lever).
Carefully prise off the shift pattern "button" on the top of the knob, peel off the old leather and slide on the new using tape & glue to hold it where necessary.
Tuck loose edges of new cover (trim if necessary) into top of knob and into hole for shaft.
Re-stick the shift pattern button and all is done. Takes about 30 minutes if you're being careful.
Insert shaft into hole on bottom of knob and push home firmly.
Screw refurbished knob back onto gear lever and tighten grub screw.
