Interior strip between windscreen and dashboard

Post by excelTim »

I need the interior strip between the dashboard and windscreen.

Local car trimmers want £560 to make.

Any suppliers off remanufactured components out there?

Otherwise will get some closed cell foam and give it a go myself.

The leather has peeled off the drivers side of my strip. I have some more leather to re-cover it but need to know, has the dash to come out before the strip can be removed? Thanks, Jeff.

mine was glued on, I pulled it off fairly easily.

it was brittle and came off in about 6 pieces.

This is a recurring issue with no economic off-the-shelf solution. My old strip was removed when the dash came out, but I'd think it would pull out ok anyway. To fit a replacement is not that difficult; on my first attempt I used some closed cell foam (spend plenty of time getting the shape and profile right - the structure underneath the dash is not flat all the way across). I had to remove the instrument and glove box binnacles to get decent access. On my first version, I've done two sections to sit behind the binnacles and around the screen vents, and not bothered with the piece behind the centre console binnacle as it is much narrower and thinner there. I just used black leathercloth to finish.

Be sure that the pieces are not so thick as to prevent the binnacles sitting correctly. The pieces only really need to go to the edges of the binnacles - they should sit securely in place without adhesive.
