Buckled rims
I had two tyres fitted this week ( Toyos , £122 , fitted ) . Luckily I have an extra spare rim . I asked the fitter to strip the tyres and spin the rims . Every wheel had a slight wobble on the inside rim . One was quite a lot worse ,so this was not used . The interesting thing is that I had been using the worst wheel on the front of the car , with no noticeable effect , well not to me anyway .

Re: Buckled rims
They easily buckle - but also some fitters don't cone them properly. The WSM has specific instructions re: coning - WSM not to hand atm but IIRC they need to be coned from the inside (the hub locating diameter) and not via the badge hole. Incorrect coning is likely to make the inside rim wobble! I went through a few fitters before I found one who was willing to listen ... they don't like being told they are doing it wrong.Big Jim wrote:I had two tyres fitted this week ( Toyos , £122 , fitted ) . Re: Buckled rims
Forgive my ignorance, Peter, but what's coning?

Re: Buckled rims
Cones, - the fitters use them to mount and 'centralise' the rim on the balancing machine. The wheels are centralised on the Lotus hubs via the hub diameter so that's what 'good' fitters should do - centralise the wheel via the larger internal inner dia and not the smaller outer 'badge' diameter.

Re: Buckled rims
I was under the impression it was just the later OZ wheels that need coning?
