Alternative igintion system

Post by marky »

Thought it was worth mentioning - when I bought my 87 Excel SE in Dec of last year it had been fitted with an ignitor LU147- full electronic igniton and a flame thrower black 3.0 OHM coil. The car has a lucas distributor with vacuum advance. The original amplifier has been disconnected.

The system seems to work very well and the car starts and runs well. Only one catch - it is not compatible with the rev limiter which must be unplugged or the car will not start.

I noticed that the connection speed limiter prevents the coil have the correct voltage to it. As if it were "mass", but why?

Not too worried as I am happy with the way the car starts and runs and I am too old to be a boy racer!

I just have to be careful in second gear as the car does rev very quickly!.
