Doors open wider on later cars?

Post by excel tel »

Am i correct in thinking that the doors open wider on the 89on models and anyone know how this was done, is it as simple as a longer check strap are are the door skins/beams different.
Thanks,
Terry.

Yes, they do.

The parts manual lists two different check straps : pre and post '89.

Thanks Angus,

Might see if i can get a pair from lotusbits and hope i can retrofit them to my 88 guess mike will know if it can be done.
Or i could cut mine up and weld in a extra bit i guess?
I just kick the lower door panel sometimes when i get in after being in the other motor and the extra few mm may help.

Cheers, Terry.

If you get the later style of check strap, you also need to get the springs and other bits to go with it.

I think there may be a problem with the door wireing, I am sure it is in a slightly different place on later models to stop it fouling the edge of the door.
