Choke and Low Fuel Warning lights stay on after repair

The previous owner of my car replaced the Choke Cable shortly before I bought the car. He informed me that he had not be able to ascertain why the choke and low fuel warning lights stay on.
I have filled the tank and the warning light still stays on. Jiggling the choke cable has not made a difference.
Where should I start looking to ensure the lights go off, please?

I think I'd start by checking the low fuel telltale delay unit which is located in the relay bank, as well as checking that the PO hadn't messed up the switch for the choke and that the fuel tank sender was producing sensible values.

I replaced the choke inner cable with a suitable but nonlotus one, wasn't able to make the warning light extinguish, so had to disconnect lead to choke outer. Start with the simplest solution. Jeff.

I'm joining this old thread as now I've replaced the choke inner cable and knob after removing the centre console, the choke warning light stays on and the knob is about 10mm away from being pushed fully home.
I can't seem to get the knob any further in than it is. Does the knob have to be in any particular orientation to go fully "home" ? The cable inner is unattached at the carb end and the outer is also undone by the carbs.
The service notes don't seem to have anything to say about it either.
Judging from this and other threads, this seems to be a common problem but I don't want to just take the bulb out, I'd rather fix the problem.

There is an orientation to the cable, I seem to remember a flat or groove on the rigid part of the cable behind the knob & there is a switch involving a small ball bearing & other bits & bobs in the cable outer/sheath just behind the dash board that works the tell tale light.

I found the cause of the light staying on. The cable as kinked just as it joins the aluminium shaft of the knob and so the knob won't go in far enough into the housing.
I'm going to see if I can cut the kink out and rejoin it to the knob but I think it's going to mean a new inner cable.
