Replacement (alternative) front seats

As I am getting the entire car retrimmed, I could replace the front seats with some that are a little more supportive. Any thoughts on which cars' seats will fit?

Jag xjs - have a search on here. I have the later version and needed to build a bridge / bracket to fit them. Think the early version just fit.

I have a pair of jaguar seats that as far as I know were from an xjs that were fitted to an Excel (so they should fit right in) that I could let you have for the price of the shipping. Let me know if you are interested!

Brian

That sounds fantastic. As they are being retrimmed they wouldn't need to be packaged too carefully. Can we discuss logistics on the phone? PM the number and best time to talk to you

I don't know if they will fit but 2000 up Corvette seats look like they will fit in well as too do Alfa 147 GTA ones - I like the way Alfa do leather.

has anybody compared the weight of other seats (such as XJS) to the Excel seats, if so what was the outcome.

I suspect the Lotus ones are quite light compared to those of a big luxury branded car.

When I fitted the XJS ones they were a little heavier but I cannot remember by how much

"Each to his own" as they say but I have found no problem with the seating in mine! Having taken the beast all the way to Greece and back with the first leg being Zeebrugge to the Swiss border I got out feeling as fresh as I was when I got in!
I am a "6-footer" with chronic arthritis just for the record! The boys at Hethel seem to have got it right as far as I'm concerned.

Only my personal opinion but I think the original seats with a little modification (see my other posts) are million times better.
Loads of side support and still a good looking seat. My bro tried to fit at least 3 other types of seat (recaro, bucket and an aftermarket recliner) in his excel and had major problems getting other seats low enough in the car and problems with the width of the mounting points. He gave up in the end and refitted the original. Hence my modification to the originals on mine.

I had no real issues with height just had to add two mounting plates as the sliders are different widths and hey presto reclining bucket seats,,,,,,,

I found that the original seats did not give me enough support in the corners and then sheared so got shot.........never regretted it....but each to their own. Have had an offer of some RX8 seats all electric so may look at them shouldn't be to difficult to wire in, all dependant on the height and width
