Foil inside roof

Has anybody found a good material to replace the aluminium foil on the inside of the roof? I'm guessing it acts as the base plate for the aerial so without most of it in place the radio reception will be poor.

I have considered the self-adhesive foil tape (ducting tape, not the cloth stuff) but as it's really only available up to 100mm wide that means may pieces and then the fun of getting those to be joined electrically (heated screen repair pain or something).

I've considered thick kitchen foil and spray adhesive, it seems a bit rough but so far it's the best idea I've got.

So, what better options have I got?

Thick kitchen foil and a strong adhesive (as it has to take the weight of the foil plus the headlining material stuck to it) should do it. When I replaced the headlining in my Excel, the ground plane looked very like kitchen foil and was stuck in the front half of the roof back to the roll hoop.
