I have just changed over to 205 60 14 H Falkens as the V rated seem impossible to get now...
Im left with 1x 205 60 14 V Bridgestone - anyone want it? Its about half worn but would make a spare for someone.... Bit of a rare size to chuck away.
FREE if you collect from Norwich, or arrange a courier?
Matt.

Got a matched pair of these now, having just changed my spare over. Anyone want them?

Hi Matt

If I were you I'd check your insurance- I won't name the broker concerned (cowardly I know) but when I was having trouble getting hold of V rated tyres I asked the broker (in writing I should add) about fitting H rated tyres and they wrote back effectively saying "no problem". Just to be on the safe side I wrote to the actual insurers- they said under no circumstances would they cover the use of lower rated tyres. To cut a long story short it ended up with the club magazine promising to highlight the problem in general (and of my own experiences in particular) but guess what- they never ran the article. Perhaps they think it's not important enough!

Hi John - how are you?
No choice im afraid - V rated are totally gone now, believe me i tried hard to get some...Im sure there are some odd ones out there somewhere, but a matching set of 4, in a decent quality - forget it!
Your old car is now running a full set of H rated Falkens - the best tyre you can still get in the correct size, albeit at the lower, H speed limit. And very good they are too....
Personally i would rather drive on new, good quality tyres than take a chance on some "old stock" tyres, even if you could find any.
Insurance - yes that is a possible issue. One of my friends is an insurance advisor, with 20 years experience. His opinion is as long as you were not exceding the rated speed of the tyre, i.e over 130 mph for an H rating, then there would be no problem in terms of a possible insurance claim. As his company brokers all my insurance policies and any claim would likely go through him then i am happy to go with his advice - other companies may vary.....
Car still running well - did 80 miles yesterday just for fun, round the lanes
Matt.

Hi Matt

Just to be on the safe side I'd get something in writing off your insurance company- I definitely wouldn't accept a verbal ok- sometimes peoples memories are, shall we say, convenient about recalling details, particularly where money is concerned. My own insurer emphatically said no to H rated tyres and firmly contradicted the broker.

Years ago when H rated tyres were discontinued in 155/13 sizes I asked Royal Insurance to confirm their authority to use S or T rated ones instead- and got their ok in writing.

I too know somebody who works in the insurance industry- he wouldn't accept a verbal ok on anything an insurer said!

Regards

John

PS got your cheque- thanks
