Replacement Parts Question

Post by The Kingmaker »

Just got back from the doctor and he tells me that I need speedo cog........my speedo only kicks in at around 40-50 mph and apparently the teeth are gone on my cog. Would love to know what car this came from originally? He seems to think the gear box is a ford....hmmmmm

Also need the ceals for the diff....and alternative parts advice greatly appreciated :-D

PS; I'm turning into a real train spotter! Saw a yellow eclat in Penge and almost jumped into the road to wave my car keys!

Gearbox is Toyota W58 - your "doctor" needs an eye test.

Lots of alternative parts listed in the "Parts Alternatives" section of this forum and some good hints & suppliers in the Technical Articles section too.

SORN - just say NO!

is it definitely the seals and if so which ones? as i though mine were on the way out and it turned out to be the breather on top of the diff that was off so the oil ran from there.....................

Hmmm.....not sure whether it is the seals now since my 'doctor' clear needs glasses!

I think I need a 2nd opinion!

I note Mr Taylor that you have the same colour car as me and wonder if you might be able to tell me whether I can get a matching colour spray can for patching up the bumper?

I appreciate that I ask a LOT of questions but I am very new to this

Matching paint, simple go to a local APEC or other automotive paint supplier and get them to do a colour match from the paint code, they'll do an aerosol for you, normally about £15 for 500ml.

Seals for the diff (if you do need them) would be from the Celica Supra rear diff of the MA61 type, so a local Toyota dealer would be a good option or try automotive parts supplier.

I also had breather issues to the point that it was venting through the diff cover gsaket. Took a lot of cleaning before I could work out where the leak was coming from. You should be able to see if it is the output seals though - there was no evidence of oil at all on mine but the whole of the diff cover was covered in oil.
