The Lotus Grand Tourers

Was wondering which engine hoist people are using?
Thinking this one due to the reach issues. It needs to be folding as my garage is already really full.

couple of points:

1. for motor and transmission removal together (which I'd recommend), the front will need to be jacked up until wheels are off the ground

2. Don't waste your time fiddling with manifold to head bolts or manifold to downpipe bolts, disconnect at first junction under car. Much easier

3. Balance point is between inlet tracts #2 and #3, so that's where you tie the rope around

4. Get a heavy duty lifter....this is a heavy unit!

Thanks for the info. How much did you raise the front wheels? Looks about 6 inches.
I am looking at a 2 ton crane which holds 500kg at max extension of 1600mm - althoughthis is 1600mm from the pivot which would probably allow about 1200mm from front of car.
What is the reason for taking the gearbox out as well? On other smaller cars (mg midget) I have done both with no complications either way.

you need a long reach one. I got mine from machine mart. Its easier if the fronts slightly higher off the ground than usual, either put a couple of inches of wood under the front wheels or axle stands. Take the bonnet off and put a piece of old carpet over the nose of the car.
Ive taken the engine out both ways, the last time just the engine without any major problems. the only difficult bit is getting the bellhousing lined up again.
Mines not a folding one, but I break it back down when Ive finished with it, it takes up less room than a folding one like that.

I aggree with Bash, if you get a long reach one(Machine Mart) then that will make life easier, the few times i have removed mine i used a standardd one but had a couple of pals to help..........................no problems

Thanks for the replies. having done a bit of measuring, it is 1200mm from front of car to number 3 inlet. Will have a shop around and see what I can come up with. Some good deals on ebay for some less well known makes of hoist.

You might find that the arm extends, with a proportional reduction in lifting capacity as it gets longer. I'd be measuring it at the 1 tonne position, that's plenty of safety factor
