What no spark !!!!!! Could any one tell me if you can test the ignition amplifier? The rest of the system seems fine. At the moment seems like a dodgy lucas amp

Usual question - have you checked the wire from the distributor to the amp? If this goes .... no go.
(I've been there!).

There's one on eBay at the moment
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Lucas-AB14-Am ... 3a5f04d445
they don't come up that often, and when they do, they're expensive (currently a single bid of £65 against the one above, it is a new one though).
I think even LotusBits sell theirs as fast as they obtain them.
If you know a friendly owner locally, maybe they could swap theirs temporarily to prove yours is duff? (think I'm safe in Oxfordshire  ).

Hi

I've sent this poster a message about these but just thought that other owners might like to know I've got a few of these (at least the expensive part of the working innards). They're brand new (nos), I bought the a few years ago as "insurance"- mine kept failing fairly regularly.

I don't need them now because I gave up and switched to Lumenition. I know some don't rate Lumenition but all I'll say is I've had it on an elan for over 20 years without problems. I suspect owners who rubbish it might have fitted coils that don't match- not a good idea.

Anyway- I think I've got about 6 sets of the expensive innards (sorry no metal cases) but swapping them over is only about 30 minutes work. The only other component you might need is a standard resistor- Maplins sell them for about £2-3.

Personally, I'd go the Lumenition route but if anybody wants these gizmos I want £45 each- I'll discount them as a job lot- I think I've about 6 or so. £240 for the 6.

Regards

John

I mentioned this on a previous post a while ago. There is a replacement module available made/branded by Intermotor. The part No is INT15210 also replace the condenser at the same time, part No INT33710. Possibly available from a decent Motor Factors type outlet. Important to remember not to use too much silicon compound when fitting the replacement module as the underside of the module "earths" to the AB14 case.

Thanks for the advice gents. Decided to replace the ignition system complete. Fitted new parts turned the key started first time seems a lot more responsive, and a bonus seemed to have lost the 2000rpm flat spot. which I thought was caused by the jets in the carbs.
