Radio Code?

For all those wiring gremlins we love, this is the place to discuss them.

Radio Code?

Post by Delsexcel »

Does anyone have a method of overcoming a lost activation code for the Radio please? I've heard stories about putting it in the freezer - but I've no idea how to remove it.
Any help gratefully received.

The unit fitted to my 85 SE was a Blaupunkt Boston, which I replaced with a Blaupunkt Toronto. There are numerous providers of codes available online. You will need the serial number, which is normally on the case. For most units, universal DIN removal tools - basically U-shaped pins with notched ends - are inserted into small holes (2 each side, one above the other) on the right and left edges of the stereo. The pins push in the locking tags of the unit, thus allowing you to pull the unit out from the dashboard. In the case of the Excel, there is not much clearance between the unit and the gearlever. I released the screws in the little lidded tray to the rear of the handbrake, released the velcro fasteners that hold the trim to the tunnel around the gear lever, raised the leather trim above the gear lever and with second gear selected this gave me enough room to wiggle the unit out. There is a grub screw in the metal collar on the gear lever that can be released to allow removal of the gaiter (and thus the trim), but I managed without doing that. Good luck.

Well, if I was right all the time I'd get to be predictable!

Thanks for that Chris: I'm pretty sure I've seen the extraction tool you described ..... somewhere amongst the junk (oops) resources!

Later cars ca 86-88,( deliverd in Sweden anyway) had Clarion 950hp stereos fitted.
Clarion has the code to those.

When I first acquired my car I had an immobilizer fitted, and paid the centre £40 to set a new code for the (lost) code to the Clarion radio/CD/cassette player.
