new owner/addict

Post by gopherboy »

In the last couple of weeks I have bought an '83 Excel and am loving it, I don't know why I didn't do this earlier.
When I picked it up from near Milton Keynes my brother came with me along with a comprehensive tool kit, jump leads and a tow rope but we didn't need any of it! Drove it over 100 miles home to Southampton without any trouble.
It needed a couple of minor jobs:
1. The heater blowers didn't work - fixed that with a fuse this weekend
2. The paint was a little too pink for my liking - fixed that with over 6 hours of polishing (for now)
3. The fan was not coming on automatically - see separate posting!
I want to tidy the interior as time goes on but for now I'm just going to use it
These things are soooooo under-rated, my girlfriend likes it, the baby seat fits, it handles well, looks great (I keep finding reasons to go into the garage to look at it),goes well, sounds good and is cheaper to insure than my Fiat Punto!
Lets hope the honeymoon period doesn't end too quickly!!

An Excel was my second Lotus, and my first that I could use daily, I then bought an Esprit, a Turbo esprit, and then.... an Excel. They are so great it's a car you can live with, but still have great style, good performance , even by modern standards, and LOTs of fun.

Keep going out to the garage, you will not bore of it, you might be tempted to part with it in a couple of years, don't unless it's to buy another Excel.

Andy

Thanks for all your welcome notes, it's also good to see some members local to me
I'm toying with a trip to Hethel for the 60th, if the weather is good then I can convince the missus it's a nice day out, otherwise I'll need a pink ticket!

If you think you might make it - let me know, we still have a few forum members tickets available and they'll be £2.50 each cheaper than paying on the gate.
