Headlamp Pod

For all those wiring gremlins we love, this is the place to discuss them.

Headlamp Pod

Post by MickR »

Having told my EXCEL its up for sale, its now thrown a strop and refuses to raise it nearside headlamp pod. :x

The colour code in manual appears to bear little relation to the five wires going to the motor, but the White/black wire appears to be the earth and the connection is good. Power i'm presuming is ok as the headlamp motors appear to be from a commom fuse.

Part of the problem is I don't fully understand the wiring diagram - ie what should be happening when. Any suggestions or experience of common faults? (89SE).
Suppose it could be the motor itself but it was working perfectly a few days ago and I don't want to be changing a part without some faith its faulty.

Any advise appreciated
Mick

Worth having a look at Skeggy's motor refurb procedure to deal with a possible overload breaker failure :

SORN - just say NO!

Skeggys refurb guide was good - gave me a spur to get dismantelling. Removing Pod and motor was easier than I thought and what i did find was a load of water in the black connector. How it got there don't really understand as all else was dry and the connector is well out the way.
Dried it out, but motor still did not work. So dismantled the other Pod and swapped motors - glad I did as it proved the motor itself is not faulty. So I'm concluding the retract Relay is at fault, probably caused by the water in connector.
I can still only see one fuse for both left & right motors so cannot be the fuse.

A phone call to SJS in the morning I think
