Check the state of your door seals - they're probably flattened and letting water in - I know mine are, but I can't find the box that's got my replacement seals in (anyone know where I put it when we moved house ? )

Other possibilities : heater matrix leaking, leak through speedo cable grommet, water getting in through poor seals between A pillar covers and windscreen.

Also check for water in the rear seats (lift the squabs) - this seems to usually come in through seat belt mounting holes, indicating that your brackets are going/gone.

Don't forget to poke a long thin stick, through the top exterior grill, at the base of the winscreen.

if the heater intake drain hole at the bottom of this gets blocked with leaves etc. it fills with water, which finds it's way through the heater, into the footwells.

Good point terry, I'd forgotten about that one. It's not hard to remove the grill (2 screws I think) and then scoop out the detritus that's accumulated.

I had a similar problem and thought it was my matrix but having removed found it was ok. I have though found that the silicon sealant around the cables had disintegrated. To check take the footwell cover off and feel the foam around the cables if its wet the silicon behind has gone.
