Guys,
So I stripped the speedo out of the dash as it had stopped working. Quickly spotted on a test run the cable end was not turning.
Before I splash out on a new speedo cable, can anyone tell me if it is easy to get at on the gearbox end.
Also (another question) is it more likely to be the cable itself that has expired or the speedo drive mechanism.
By the way - it's help a numpty week
Cheers for any comments

Access to the speedo drive is pretty much straightforward.
My guess is that you have killed the cable when you were removing the dashboard. Cable is quite fragile and you have to slacken all cable mounts before removing the dashboard.
My Excel had 3 cables during my 10 years of ownership
Guess you have tried that Handrill trick to test the speedo / speedo cable...

Nope, cable killed itself I'm afraid. Gradually over the last few hundred miles.
I only removed the speedo after it had packed up - it started with a flicker and ended with no movement at all.
Guess the next question is - where are all the cable clips hiding - lol
I really am so looking foward to doing this job - not
Thanks for coming back to me.
