Mineral or Synthetic ?

I'm due to do an oil change at the weekend, and I seem to remember a strong argument in favor of using regular mineral oil, (with more frequent changes,) as opposed to semi or fully-synthetic. What's everyone else using

When I bought my car with 50k miles, the dealer was using Duckhams QXR semi-synthetic which they recommended. From about 70k miles to the current 132k miles I've been looking after it myself and she has has a mix of Mobil 1 and Castrol RS ever since.
I wouldn't recommend the runny synthetics, I stick to 10w60 Castrol RS, 15w50 Mobil 1 and sometimes 5w50 Mobil 1 over the winter.
I used to change the oil at around 5/6,000 mile intervals, but will probably reduce that interval now that I am doing more short trips.

i only ever use 20w50 valvoline racing... a little annoying as i have to get it ordered in especially... the only oil that can stay thick at high temps, plus the oil galleries are designed for it...

I'm with phil on that one, i used valvoline 20/50 on last oil change, but can be tricky to get hold of.

For those of you in the midlands it can be got hold of through CAS motor factors. They also sell it in 25 ltr barrels tht halfs the price of the normal retail 5ltr price.

I'm using Castrol Classic XL 20-50 which I change every 2500 miles, and have been very happy with it.

i use millers semi synthetic sport which is 20/50 and desinged for use in older high performance cars, i've had no issues with it so far, to be honest, as far as oil goes as long as you use a good quality brand, and change it at reasonable intervals you should'nt have any issues

CASTROL RS 10W60, and a new LOTUS oil filter every time, (with the anti-drain valve)..... Neither are cheap, but they are an AWFUL LOT cheaper than ever having an engine rebuild!
