1988 LOTUS EXCEL SE FOR SALE (RESTORATION OR SPARES)

I have for sale (regretably) my 88 Excel SE in white

Firstly I would like to say that I have owned the car for three years and it is the most fun I have had from driving a car!

The car its self mechancially is in sound condition and had a new clutch and cambelt fitted about 2,500 miles ago, and engine runs like a dream, car has a full stainless steel exhaust. Whilst it was in having the above jobs done the garage recommended replacing the oil with fully sythetic oil and I believe the car runs better now than it did before.

This model has the full leather interior (blue) which is in good condition (the back seats have hardly been sat in!)

The bad points, the car has light damage to the near side front which has caused a crack in the wing, it doesn't look as though damage has been done to the structure of the car but it does pull slightly to the left.

The roof lining will need replacing (common problem I believe) and the car will need a fully respray at somepoint but apart from a few small cracks the body is generally in good condition.

To be fair anyone that has the time to spend on this project for not a great deal of money will have a really top car, unfortunantely I don't have the time or space to restore it.

I would prefer it to go complete rather than breaking it as I know there are not that many of these great cars left.

I'm looking for £1500 (or as close to it) for the car. I have some photos of the car in its current condition that I can email to anyone that is interested.

I can be contacted by email at darrenh_wise@hotmail.com

Thanks,

Darren.

Hi Darren
Sorry to see your Excel has gone to far for you to be able to resore to it's former glory, hopefully you will get what you are asking (quite a reasonable price) :D for the complete car for someone to put back on the road. If I had more space I would be interested.
Now the preditory bit, if however you decide to break the car for spares I am after a complete Blue leather interior,
unfortunately some of these great cars are worth more as spares. :(
Why as the most reliable and useable Lotus do they fetch such low money :?:
One Day.

Ordinary people think:
4 seater sports
Unfashionable shape
wheel to body proportion not fashioable
Plenty of moderns have similar motorway performance (jo public doesn't do bends of course)
Esprit prices have dived a bit as well.

Well what do they know?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your comments, you are right its a shame these great cars are worth more as scrap than in one piece.

If I do end up breaking it I'll let you know regarding the interior.

Hi John,

I bought Darren's car. I'm pleased with it too. Needs work but it's a good car that needs a respray and a few jobs done :D
