The Lotus Grand Tourers

My Father has (finally) decided to sell his Eclat.
But he's buying my Esprit, which means I can spend more time & money on my Excel!

Just a warning to anyone else selling a Lotus, the highest bidder on my Fathers Eclat 'Bigboydrinka - boo.gra@blueyonder.co.uk' claimed within 24 hours of winning the bid that his 14 year old son bid for him.

Even though he has since bid on other 'Loti'!

Oh well, what goes around comes around ............ my dog is pretty handy on the PC.

Well, these things are in the eye of the beholder. It must be very common in Lotus circles for others to not understand the money spent on things in comparison to their actual end value. I think it is unfair to mock others if you haven't actually seen the car though.

Micha - in the last week you seem to have been posting a lot on both Excel forums, which is good, but what you say is not always friendly, which is bad. The other forum was quite right to edit you, and mention your poor conduct. Please don't let this creep in here too. You know a lot about these cars, try to be helpful like you always have been in the past!

i know that my postings are often very harsh...but i dont like to discuss "around" things...i´m straigthforward, dont hide with the truth and maybe sometimes, on the first view, it seams very rough how i talk about things.


again a thing to the yellow eclat:

it´s well known since years that you will never get the money back which you invest in a historic car.

i also know that a full restoratiion often costs double or 3 times the money than the later value.....but thats not my problem!!! if somebody starts restoring a basketcase instead watching the reality and search for a better car from the beginning he cannot claim later for the "wrong" investments he did.

e.g.: its not my problem if somebody investes maybe 10000pound in a car who´s value is only 3000 at the end and than wants to sell the car for 6000,- wondering why nobody pays it.

truth is truth, reality is reality and the reality is often very "hard"!!

its not luck, that i bought a perfect eclat S2 for "only" 900,-pound, some reasonable excels for 1000,-pound....and also some other non-lotus cars like that.

i invested lots of time to compare the cars existing on the market and invested also lots of time to get an overview about the market. following a few types of cars over several months and you can see in 10seconds which car is overprized and which ones are ok....and the most are overprized....

result is: they end up 5 times at ebay, 5 times sold, 5 times the buyers didnt finish the deal. why? i tell you why: when the buyer saw the reality he recognized that the item he bought is overprized and the description was often wrong.

Is it just me? With all due respect I'm having trouble seeing the point of this discussion.......

It's nothing to do with you not discussing "around things". It's about you feeling the need to add negative comments about everything!
Why bring up a thread from months ago just to add a silly comment? (or years ago as in the case of the 'tyres' thread!).

Most of your threads (on both forums) come across as arrogant with a 'I know better than anyone else' attitude.
We are all here to learn off each other and share experiences of owning & working on these cars.

you are right...but often i cannot understand how people, owning a car for a long time do not know anything about it...and than there is a "greenhorn" like me arriving, after a few investigations i know more than the "specialists".


i´ve the same problem with tvr: searched a certain spare part. asked the most famous tvr-parts dealer in uk (after several days investigations via google and some forums). the part he offered me seamed to be very expensive and with about 2 days intense search on the web i found out that it came from a ford cortina. i asked the "specialist", dealing with such parts since years, why he offers me this part so expensive when i can buy it around the corner in the next ford garage for 60% lower.

the answer was: "thanx for your info. i always thought that our suplier charges us too much"

...and this is what i´m fighting against: the innocent ignorance!!!

if people have a shit car they shouldnt ly about the condition. if the guy who deals with parts charges so much he should be honest and say" hey guy the item is so expensive cause i spent so much time to investigate where it comes from and this must be paid" instead of finding an excuse.

"Plonk" is genius, thanks Angus! How have I lived without that phrase before now? I will now be using that at work all the time now, hoping no one else knows its meaning!

Sorry guys for starting this if it was me. Just trying to nip a situation in the bud, before it worsens, but probably doing the opposite! Lets all just have a laugh about it.

my ebay feedback is 100% positive and from around 400 ebay transactiopns i gave 1 negative...because he didnt deliver the item.

We post on here to ask advice or offer advice. If we ask 'silly' questions or our question get read the wrong way no one mind or takes offense. If our advice is mis-guided or just plain wrong no one takes offense.

But we do it because we love our cars and want to help other people that love cars - Lotus or others.

If you want to post on here to cause trouble (*) then please don't but if you want lively debate I don't think anyone here would have a problem.
