Pektron low fuel warning light delay "relay"

For all those wiring gremlins we love, this is the place to discuss them.

Pektron low fuel warning light delay "relay"

Post by Pete Boole »

I'm wanting to test a Pektron low fuel warning delay "relay". I've got the wiring diagram from the MH section of the service notes but don't have the bank of relay bases/holders that is present in a car. Does anyone have an old wiring loom they could check for me to see which wires connect to which terminals on the relay base? The wire colours are black, green/orange, light green/orange and green. I'm sure an electronics wizard would look at the pcb and just know :D

Thanks

Pete

I'd love to help, but looking at the Elite series 1 wiring diagram it doesn't show a relay in the low fuel lamp circuit and the light is just operated by a connection to the fuel level sensor. Do you have something different to the standard diagram.

Thanks TAR - my car is very different - only a few wires remain of the original loom! I'm fitting several more warning lights on the dash that the original car doesn't have, including a low screen wash warning light. I was hoping to use a low fuel warning light delay unit to reduce false triggering (anti-slosh) and since I already have the Pektron unit I thought I might use it - but I need to test it and to test it I need to know which wires connect to what :D

Most of the original Pektron units have failed by now.
I know one of mine has been replaced by the original version of this - https://spiyda.com/fuel-gauge-wizard-mk3.html

I can look and see if the other one still has it’s original unit and check wires.

Thanks Alan - that would be great. The Spiyda unit is what I plan to use for the fuel gauge/warning light.

Hi Pete,

My wiring loom is in the boot of my car - I will get it out and take a look/pictures for you on the weekend.

Neil.

Hi Pete,

Slowly :D - small bits here and there, but seem to be a lot of other things that need doing right now.....

Pete : Here you go. these should help- First picture shows orientation but is blurred for colours, second Pic a lot sharper but you can't see the relay.

Use the long bar with insulting tape wrapped around - It's the relay base next to it.

Thanks Tony - that's perfect :D. It will be interesting to see if it still works and what the time delay is. I've also bought a 12v time delay relay to play with as well.

Have you tried the interior light delay relay.
That gives about 10 Seconds.
