S1 Eclat steering wheel bolts

I need to remove the steering wheel on my S1 Eclat so that I can replace the indicator stalk. I've bought a pulling kit and all went well until coming to the three hub fixing points which hold the steering wheel to the hub - they act as the anchor points for the puller to take the hub off the steering column splines.
Hopefully I've explained that in a way that makes sense but can post a picture if that will help
The pulling kit comes with metric bolts and the hub fixing points are something else. So the ask on this topic is does anyone know what these bolts / holes are? Close to an M6 so I'm guessing 1/4" or 5/16" but what thread?

Struggling to understand your description, but probably because it doesn't sound like the original fitment.
The original steering wheel is one piece, with tapered inner splines in the alloy central boss. A large nut just clamps it all on.
I can take a couple of photos if it helps

Tony apologies I knew I probably hadn't explained it well. It's the standard original wheel and you're correct there is one big nut which attaches the wheel to the column, but there are also 3 smaller bolts which surround it to attach the wheel to the hub and align it. Picture below (if it loads):

I think I'm going to order some 1/4" UNF and hope for the best

1) get a pair of calipers and a threadgauge and learn how to use them if working on mechanical equipment of mixed age of parentage.
2) Put the big nut back a couple of turns (important step!) , hop in the seat, grab the wheel at the spokes and wiggle and pull. Most wheels will come off the splines, but this one might benefit from a squirt of lube first.

Threads in aluminium parts are often coarse, so possibly UNC.

Marten thanks for the advice - this is a very sensible and logical approach but takes away all the fun of rummaging through random boxes of bolts and nuts in the garage looking for one which is close! I've had a lot of experience with this having also got an XJ-S (and therefore lots of boxes of random bolts!)...
The wheel is quite well jammed onto the column hence resorting to the puller.
Pete good thinking re UNC - I've broken the bank and ordered UNC and UNF so hopefully one of these will fit

Just to complete this thread in case anyone needs to know in future - The bolts are 1/4" UNF...
