Re: Clutch Master Cylinder
Thanks for that. Google search led me to Amazon & a shop called “blue print” £32.00 ! And it looks identical to SJ’s. It arrived today & the casting looks like the original, similar markings. A Result.

Re: Clutch Master Cylinder
Does anyone think this cheap ebay clutch master purchase would be a mistake?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174929463100 ... SwAv9hOKyY
I need one soonest, and although I dont mind having to pay for quality, if this ebay item is 'the same as', then why pay £90 to £120+ when £30 does it?
Slighly suspicious of the black paint on the body?
Any views on this chaps, chapesses, others, etc?

Re: Clutch Master Cylinder
The Toyota Celina one is no longer available.
As for the Ebay one and many others the Studs are not at 12 O'clock and 6 O'clock.
The correct one I fitted to one of my 1990se in 5/9/22 was from.
Car Parts In Motion. PM108908
Blue Print Clutch Master Cylinder ADT 33431
The only thing I found with it was the Top Stud was a little long to get the Ratchet Spanner off the Nut so cut a bit off.
Also I found it a lot easier and quicker to get in and see what I was doing by removing the Seat.
Hopes this helps.
It might be useful if Admin put this into the "Alternative Parts" list.

Re: Clutch Master Cylinder
Thanks for that! Saved a big mistake there.
The set-back for the mounting bracket isn't deep enough either.
Here's an image the correct one for reference:

Parts in Motion doesn'r list it at the moment.
I found it on Amazon for £90 inclusive of next day delivery.
Problem is, not for want of trying, I couln't get out of the PRIME free trial at checkout ...the "no Thanks" option is cynically non-responsive. Sharp-practice, or what
? !
Now I'll have to remember to cancel Prime soonest. I got caught out with this a few years ago - paying for prime monthy for two years without using it as I didn't realise I'd subcribed.

Re: Clutch Master Cylinder
Now then ... TWO suppliers let me down. All of those listed in previous posts had no stock. One month wasted, and two refunds later (£90 for the 1st one , £128 for the second), I took a punt on a JAPANPARTS Toyota Carina item (eBay ) with a bad photo that looked promising, and it was relatively cheap at £57 inc.
Had to tap the lower boss hole for M10 and jobs a gudun! Swapped the control arm over for the OE as in photo below:

Reason for new MC is pitted bore = leaks. Leaks that ejaculated streams of clutch fluid over the relays. All sorts of electric issues with contaminated relays below the MC: starter drop out relay = no crank; Fans relay = no fans; interior light delay relay; hazard relay; all causing intermittent faults. No wonder given the open nature of the relay housing (below):

So I've made a cover out of ABS plastic sheet. Easy to do.

RESULT! That's much better.

Also worth noting that the clutch MC bulkhead gasket does not seal well. Could see daylight through mine so I applied plumbers BOSS WHITE to the gasket and it's definitely water tight now.

I'm having an issue finding a master cylinder at the moment! Do you have a part number for the JapanParts unit? All the OE part numbers are showing out of stock units everywhere

Looks same as the one I bought.
For clarity I searched on my eBay app with:
"Japanparts clutch master cylinder Toyota Carina"

Re: Clutch Master Cylinder
Peter, just checking - are you sure that is the correct part? I could be wrong but by the picture in the listing it looks like the studs are in the wrong position - shouldn't they be at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock?Lotus-e-Clan wrote: Mon Sep 08, 2025 20:47Try thisMart1n95 wrote: Mon Sep 08, 2025 20:13 I'm having an issue finding a master cylinder at the moment! I changed my master cylinder a few months ago and, like Martin, found dificulty sourcing a new one at a decent price. The prices seem to have gone through the roof on these parts recently. If I look back at old threads on here, it looks like about £50 was the going price for a new clutch master cylinder. Now it's up over £200!
I eventually bought this one from ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/167582259545. I had to swap the pushrod with the old one, but otherwise it fitted OK. I also took out the top stud and replaced it with a bolt - that top nut access is so fiddly that a bolt was easier to tighten than a nut.

Re: Clutch Master Cylinder
I had found this one, JapanParts FR-206

What I've done for the mean time is just order a rebuild kit from SJ Sports cars for £20, rather than take a gamble of £70

As e-clan said, over £200 for the available master cylinder on SJ Sports cars! Crazy price!
*Edit* Please let me know if you can see the photos!

Re: Clutch Master Cylinder
You may be right. It could be the next one down (79.99£) in my eBay search. I think I might have the old master in the new master box In the garage which may confirm either way. I'll have a look this morning.

Re: Clutch Master Cylinder
Before ordering a rebuild kit it is wise to dismantle first to inspect the bore. Rust pitting at the bottom might be to severe to refurbish. That said after ordering two slavecylinders which were clearly the wrong part in the right box I had to resort to aggresively sanding and honing the cilinder I had.Mart1n95 wrote: Tue Sep 09, 2025 09:01 I had found this one, JapanParts FR-206

Main clutch cilinder I got was a NPS T250A78 @ 60 euro's but it is now out of stock. Phew!

Re: Clutch Master Cylinder
The main cylinder worked originally, and bores looked fine from what I'd seen but it was only a cursory glance really. I suppose if it comes to it there are hone tools to try hone it out properly too, as long as you don't go too far and the seals don't seal! I've got an ultrasonic bath as well so I'll chuck them in there to clean them up!Marten wrote: Tue Sep 09, 2025 09:23Before ordering a rebuild kit it is wise to dismantle first to inspect the bore. Re: Clutch Master Cylinder
Here you go..

So it is the £79.99 one in the eBay search list ("Japanparts clutch master cylinder Toyota Carina" ), not the £59.99 one as Tezzan correctly pointed out.
BTW my old MC would not have worked with the repair kit as the bore was too far gone. I've only kept it for a possible future repair with a Stainless Steel sleeve when these Jap parts are no longer available...but I'll be long dead by then!
