Have I got the wrong cam belt?

Went to change the cam belt this afternoon and after taking the bonnet and various other bits off I had a close look at the belt on the car and it's different from my replacement.

Belt on car with round teeth:

New belt with square teeth:

I got the belt, a QHB122, after reading the information in the parts alternative section. Have I just read it wrong?

Car is a '86 HE.

Thanks in advance,

Steve.

Square toothed belt is for older cars - the design changed in - (drum roll please) - 1986!

The HTD round tooth version...Looks like the QH code in that thread is for the trapezoidal toothed belt.

mds,

The belt on the car has "Gates Powergrip HTD B912E6697F" printed on it. Do you/we think that 5448XS is the same?

B912.... is the Lotus part number for the revised round-tooth belt.

Guys - I'm going to make a plea here - if you are posting part numbers, please can you also give the year of the car, engine type (LC or HC) and a brief description of the part

e.g. for a cam belt we need to know is a pre- or post- 86 car, is it the LC or HC engine and does the belt have trapezoidal or rounded teeth ?

An excellent point, otherwise many more mistakes might be made!

Yep, that was me

It was also me that mis-read/didn't read properly that post so ended up with the wrong belt
And to make matters worse you can actually see the shape of the teeth just by looking under the bonnet

A very, very good point for any part.

Sorry...

The belt I discribed above is for a 1986 Excel with the LC engine and the belt has rounded teeth.

Now I'm even more confused :P

Mine is a 1986 HC that needs a round tooth belt

But thanks for the info 'iforland'.

Yep I was confused, but when I checked the second letter of the engine number was L which according to another post means its a standard Excel, i.e. LC not HC.

Also the rocker covers are black not red...

My manual simply states that the HTD belt was used from 86 MY onwards, it does not differentiate between HC and LC engines.
