Heater valve stuck open?

Post by shaunw »

I think my heater valve may be stuck partially open. The heater vary rarely gets used but I've used the car more through this winter and have had the heater on a fair bit. Went to close it off today and it appears to be o ly partially closing as the air is still luke warm, even with the aircon on. Anyone else had this?

ISTR that inside the air distribution unit the heater matrix is not completely covered when set to cold - if the foam on the air flaps has disintegrated to some degree it may be letting some warm air through if the water valve isn't closing fully. The water valve is a bypass type and also important for cooling cylinder 4.

Thanks chaps, I shall investigate. Being lazy, where is the valve, behind the dash?

Water valve is in the engine bay, just in front of the bulk head. You'll see the cable linking to it.

Thanks for the reply guys. It's definitely not a cable problem as I can see it moving the valve back and forth. I'll investigate further and report back

Mine had a similar problem ages ago. The flap inside the heater box was stuck half open so i opened it fully and disconnected the cable. It now gets hotter than ever but takes ages to get cold as the matrix has to cool down but is cold after about 5 mins. The tap in the engine bay may well be stuck a bit open.
