Post by CHRISYD »

Well she hadnt moved since mid november so on tuesday i decided that as the roads are dry (but fecking cold!!) i decided to go to work in it this week. She started first time, some air in the tyres and a lightcheck and off i went. Im glad the heater gets hot! She also lives outside so am impressed that everything has been ok. (didnt doubt it really)

Good stuff Chris! And armchair experts would still believe old Lotus cars are unreliable

Reminds me of myself a couple of years ago. We were due to go on a spring break ( remember those ?) to Cornwall in my wifes Megane, packed a suitcase and set off to fill up on the way to the motorway, when, the electric fuel filler flap wouldnt open. The electrics on this car were crap, the rest of the car was good, but a 700 mile trip with no fuel wasnt on. So, back home and it still wouldnt open. The Excel had been sat in the garage for about 3 months without moving and had gradually disappeared under a pile of " I'll put it away later". Unearthing the car took a while but it started first pull, tyre and oil check and off we went..... into the worst trip ever weather wise alternating between heavy rain and sleet during the rush hour period because we had set off later than planned, it never stopped the whole way down. Car never missed a beat, or during the following week.
Anyone who thinks these cars are unreliable really dont know what they are talking about.

And, as soon as I got back went to the megane and the sodding flap opened first time and it never did it again. just one of many random electrical faults.

:D
I must admit, once the first 50 miles had gone by it was more fun.

spoke too soon! although warmer now, it took an absolute age for the engine to reach "normal" temp. I thought the fans were stuck on but no. on way home it warmed up as normal within 3 miles so im guessing the thermostat might have been stuck open so new one on the way.
