Oil Cooler and hoses

A standard oil cooler and hoses removed from my 1990 Excel - free to anyone who will cover the postage. The cooler itself is in excellent condition, just a little grimy from 29 years use. The hoses are in fair/good condition, the unions at the oil filter end are a bit rusty although they do not leak. I was unable to separate the hoses and cooler (otherwise would have just replaced the hoses), this isn't an issue though if they are fitted as a set. Someone with more tools / experience / patience might be able to separate them!

I'm going to the NEC show on Saturday 9th Nov so can deliver there if it helps.

Any use to anyone before they go in the bin?

If you are going to bin OEM Parts, Might I suggest a donation to the Club Spares ? Angus I believe manages it. Not sure where they are stored though.

Right now? In my dining room! (SWMBO is not exactly happy about this).

Happy to leave them at the NEC with Angus, only if Shirley agrees

Warning: you think the last drop of oil has dribbled out of the hose... Until another drip comes out. And another. All over your dining room table. DAMHIKIJKOK...

I believe that's just a consequence of the ageing process.

Bryan,

What have you replaced it with?

New OEM or something else (if so, pray tell us what's your line of thinking)? :)

It's basically back to OEM, Peter. I was a bit concerned about the rust on the filter end hose unions, so I bought a new set of hoses from SJs. However having since seen a few other folk's hoses, everyone's connectors are as rusty as mine, so given that they didn't leak or cause a problem, perhaps I was being a bit over cautious.
Once I had the hoses, I couldn't then separate them from the cooler, probably due to 29 years of reaction between the steel union and the aluminium cooler. A bit frustrating since the cooler was in perfect condition, but I didn't want to wreck it by trying to remove the hoses.
So I ordered a new Mocal 13 row cooler from Matt Lewis Racing (i.e. same make and size as the original). They very kindly supplied the heavy duty version for the same price as the standard, so I guess I'm back to OEM spec or slightly better. Oil pressure reading is now fractionally higher, showing better flow / less resistance through the hoses and cooler.

Ah yes, I couldn't undo mine either when I fitted the remote oil filter block.

Interesting obs on pressure increase. As you know, since fitting the remote filter block, I also fitted twin oil pressure sensors (and twin oil temp sensors) to allow me to read pre-oil filter and post-oil filter pressures 'on the fly' . The 'pre' measures VERY high coming from the oil cooler when cold with a large 1+ bar delta over the 'post' sensor pressure (summertime). As the oil temp increases to around 85C the pressure delta across the filter narrows to around less than 1/2 bar as the thinner oil passes the filter matrix more easily. Obviously, it follows that there will be a negative pressure delta across the cooler too (but I'd need a 3rd sensor to measure that! ) so any reduction in delta here (a better flowing cooler) will still carry over beyond the filter to benefit the final pressure at the bearings too. :)

Oil cooler and hoses now reserved for Club Spares.
