I want to replace the rear window carpet and therefore the rear seat backrest. I have loosened the tabs in the boot
and the backrest is released at the top but seems to be fixed somehow at its lower point against the car floor.
Any advice please.

Once you have the lower squabs out, you should be able to see some steel tabs of the back part, that are screwed to the body. IIRC it's two per seat.
