Hi
Can anybody recommend a bodyshop or someone near Cambridge who I can visit for a good and affordable respray on my Excel? Happy to do the interior myself but I don't have the skills to do paintwork? Not in a hurry but would like to get the car looking good for next year. It took me 7 years to get my Elan resprayed.. a long story. Hopefully I can get the Excel respray finished a bit quicker?
Thanks
Carl

It depends how close you consider close, but a little way down the M11 etc and you'd be at Mark's place that used to be Stockscoachworks,
http://www.stockssportscars.co.uk . It may not be the cheapest, but lots of owners have seen the work and like the quality of finish.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the contact details. I thought I had read somewhere on their website a while ago that they had stopped doing and bodywork and were just concentrating on selling cars these days. I will drop them an email anyway...

Just heard back from Mark, they only sell cars these days ...

I've been investigating the same. Lotus Bits quoted me £4000 which included removing the engine and all the glass. Local garage quoted me £3000 with nothing removed. I also asked a small place that do work for cash and they wanted about £2500 nothing removed. They did some damage re-spray on another car for me which seemed good but it wasn't the whole car and it wasn't fibre glass.
I cant recommend anyone but I would check out their work first. I saw an Esprit that Lotus Bits did and it looked really good.

Interesting.
If it were mine I'd want the engine and glass out so LB would get my £4K ...but I suspect the temptation for you to do other stuff with the engine and glass out (eg clutch, brake pipes, and headlining) would add at least 50%!

I spoke to Lotusbits recently, they quoted me about £4k if I stripped the car first...£1.5k to strip the car and a lot more to put it back together..

I managed to find a couple of local guys in Maidstone to do my car and they did a fantastic job of it.
I stripped the car and removed the engine for them and that was circa £2k cash.
