I'm thinking some dealers think "I've got an Lotus up for sale at an off scale price which I haven't been able to sell in 18 months and a nice complimentary article in Saturday's car porn makes me think I'll slap an extra £5 k on it to shift it quicker"

However, then I think - who is under estimating the value, rather than dealers over estimating to make fast buck?

Time to hike the prices ?

Whatever, as i'm not intending to sting Dave down the Winchester for £7k against a yellow Eclat, I'm off to see Terry :)

Taking 'investment' out of the equation for a moment, car enthusiasts are willing to pay good money for stuff that hits the pleasure buttons.

And for me the buttons hit with this car are, Seventies nostalgia /previous ownership, fabulous near original condition (which is rare), genuine 'Chapman car', and still cheaper than other 'S1' Lotus.

I love the interior but if the paintwork was in yellow, black, white or metalic blue it would hit yet another pleasure button.

I would't buy it as a daily classic - this is a dry weather week-ender and if kept well would eventually become the investment many crave.

Elites are cool.

Seems grossly unfair that Esprit's fetch so much money in comparison. I was looking at the prices yesterday and comparable models fetch 3 times the price of Excels and twice the price of Elites or Eclats. I have to say that I don't really get it!!

Mark.

^^^He he he :D

If only ALL Excel owners were members of this forum we could run a pact, a cartel, and agree minimum asking prices..

For example:

resto non-runner = £5000
daily runner (10 yard beauty)= £10000
garaged week-ender (1 yard beauty) = £15000
show queen = £20000

NB. THESE ARE STRICT MINIMA from which one can negociate UPWARDS!

Agreed? :)

I've started a new post on valuations as not every one will be drawn to this current thread.

An amazing find, but as its being sold by a Classic Car garage I wonder what the owner (or his widow) received?
