Roof lining colour on red cars

Post by bash »

When I did the roof in my white excel I used some material from wollies called 'New Empire Grey' ....yoda. Anyway it does still look great 5 years later. Im about to tackle the roof in the 'saviour excel' and its a red car. Chris whos the other half of the mucky hand gang has done a red one with a black headlining, but that car had black leather, the saviour excel has a lovely magnolia full leather interior that is in exceptional condition so I dont think we are doing it in black. Whats left of the headlining looks like it was grey but I was wondering what colour you guys with red cars are using, I assume its the same light grey stuff. Anyone know any different ?

I went with a light brown material from Lotusbits. My leather is sand rather than magnolia, and is a little "browner" than it looks in the pictures. The headlining colour complements the leather and carpet nicely:

I had a bit left so can send you a small sample if you like, John?

My (original, in-so-far unrestored) headlining is a 'stone' colour. Red car with full sandy/beige/magnolia leather.

In my opinion, the headlining colour depends more on the interior trim than the body clour. Browns/oatmeals/beiges = beige, blacks/blues/greys = grey.

However as with all things Lotus there will be exceptions!

looks like racing beige it is then, thanks guys.
I think this is material from Woolies, I used 4 metres worth the last time and 4 tins of the expensive heat resistant spray glue. Any comments ( apart from its more inexpensive, not cheaper.... there is a difference ) .
