The sun visors on my car are begining to fray at the edges and keep dropping down when they are not wanted. After reading about the difficulties in re covering them I've been considering replacing them.

I think a more conventional "single mount" type which allows the visor to swivel out to the side window might be the way to go. The redundant mounting holes next to the A pillars and the interior mirror could be pluged with a suitable grommet.

A trip to my local car breaker with a tape measure is planned for next week.

I's also like to ask Phil "Tanz" how did you manage to replace the rear shelf carpet ? I've wanted to do mine but the rear edge is jammed against the rear screen - I assumed the carpet had been fitted by the factory before the screen was put in.

Hi Kev,

The 'parcel shelf' carpet is just glued in. It dosn't go under the rear windscreen but is a tight fit up to it. It took a bit of time but I just kept pulling at it ripping off bit at a time untill it was all gone. If you pull it will come out from the windscreen edge but Lotus did use good glue and it takes a bit of patience Helps if you can get a knife under it to cut through the glue,

Hope this helps,

Cheers,
Phil

Machine Mart do a set of scrapers and hooks, with black handles, they are fairly cheap, but some of the hooks type things are ideal for removing the last bits of carpet,

Warning!!!

don't twist them in the gap, because it might chip/crack the glass.

When you put carpet back, use contact adhesive, allow a bit to overlap, trim to shape of window, and push the last bit into the gap with a paint scraper.

TB.

I put the the foil back in during the Christmas hols
Tanz. I am up to the same problem with the alu foil on the front part of the roof.
I have been looking for suitable products and one candidate is a Product called Dynaplate from Dynamat.

But it seems a bit costly.

What kind of foil did you use?

Best regards

Good job. Now you have finished I bet you are thinking you could do it so much better next time! It's definitely a skill only learned by practice.

Nice job John! I found it to be one of the most satisfying jobs I've done on my car. The difference it makes to the whole appearance of the interior is massive.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I really agree that a second attempt at the headlining would render a better end result. But I am quite satisfied with the results even at this attempt.

But I must confess, I turned in the sun visors to a car upholstery shop because i thought i never would cope with that without a proper seving machine. The end result of the sun visors are excellent, but the cost was terrible...

Now on to next challenge, change of exhaust system, jack up and roll under....
