No water loss at all.

Then, what about getting hold of a std ignition set-up?

Does the 123 distributor work well lying on it's side ( most installations are vertical)?

Hi. It might be worthwhile taking the spark plugs out as soon as it stalls. Don't try and start it. Have a look and smell the plugs, are they wet or dry? Is it petrol or coolant ? Can you see any vapour from the cylinders ?

With a strobe light connected and with the lamp inside the car when you drive you can keep a constant view of when it cuts out. You can do the same with a voltmeter on either the coil or the fuel pump.
Although not likely to be the culprit, open the petrol chambers on the carbs and inspect for cleanliness and blow through the extracted jets.

Best of luck Dave O.

Have you checked your vacuum pipe connections?

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5873

People have reported rough running problems that were cured once the vacuum connections have been sorted, not sure this could account for a car cutting out after a short run but worth checking. There is a thermal switch that's part of the vacuum circuit, it kicks in after the car is up to temperature.

Other than that double check your fuel circuit. I had exactly this sort of problem on a Triumph Stag, it would run fine for a while then conk out. I'd replaced a leaky fuel tank, not realising the filter was full of sludge and rust. Also you may have more than one filter in the feed.

Looks like the fault is within the distributor, awaiting for replacement under warranty :D
Thank you all for your help and support :) , I've let you know the outcome.

Just an update, distributor came back this week with the outcome 'no fault found' refitted it and replace dizzy cap and rotor arm (both had been replaced just over a year ago) at the same time just to rule them out. Set up ignition timing and road test. 10 miles came, then 20miles, in total 35miles and she didn't miss a beat. So was it just the dizzy cap/rotor arm all the time? I'am hoping so.
