Although I can see the price of the windscreen on lotusbits, can I be cheeky and ask how much with fitting.

Hi

Well, all done 400 mile round trip!

While I was down there the Starter Motor packed in, fortunately at Lotus Bits and not the previous 4 times I started her up while on the road down!

Turns out the starter motor was the wrong type, had an LC instead of a HC one, must have been the previous owner

Windscreen took about 4 hours to fit including 2 hours drying time
Cost was £390 + vat

Very well done, and I was well looked after by Mike, enjoyed the visit immensely, a must see experience.
Got back home at midnight, after a stop for fuel, both car and driver :D

Not a bad price all facts considered. Did the guys from Lotusbits fit the screen or did a specialist fitter attend the site?

A specialist fitted the screen, does all windscreens at Lotus Bits,
Mike booked him in, travels all over the place

Is there anything stopping a competent local guy fitting one, did you observe some mystical technique going on, spacers etc???

He had no problems with mine, didn't need any extra work to fit new one, however
he did mention there can be problems where I suppose you might need his expertise.

Only snag is that Mike stocks the screens and will not post due to screens being damaged.
Has been known to supply to other fitters, however he charges more for the screen.

For what its worth, going down there took about 3.5 hours, takes on average 4.5 hours fitting
including 2 hours for the adhesive to dry.

It would be possible to set off at 4.30-5.00 to return home at 9.00.
It only took me longer cause I was having a few other checks done (for MOT) probably a further hour or so.

Trouble is mine is already broken so no MOT = no drive down, chicken/egg situation. All I can think of is to try and home-fit a tatty 2nd hand screen when one becomes available just for MOT purposes.

Oh ek!

I remember Mike (windscreen fitter) saying Auto glass will do it, they will contact Lotus Bits and supply and fit I would of thought.
Speak to Mike Taylor he will sort something out for you. The windscreens are 250 + VAT from Lotus Bits, there was a guy picking one up when I was there, someone might bring one up if they were passing.

Just an update

Windscreen reforming very well,
all my issues with dampness in the car and damp, foisty smells, all of which are gone
Cleaned leather and applied Auto glym leather cream to add that nice leather smell.
